Outpourings: Prayer for the East Coast

As I watch the news this morning, I try to place myself amidst the shore fires in Jersey.

They have completely wiped out an entire community.

Thank the Lord that the worst of Hurricane Sandy has passed -- yet, for many, the ravages of the ocean storm have been devastating.

Jesus says, "Where two or three gather as My followers, I am there among them" (Matt. 18:20).  So, who wants to gather and pray?  Will you join me right now, and in the next few days, as we pray for the East Coast?

Dear Heavenly Creator God,

Nothing and no one escapes Your glance, Lord.  You see all and You are ever in movement.  This hurricane is no surprise to You, Lord, and we trust in Your Sovereignty in this moment, that all would indeed work for the good of those who love You.  Jesus, please restore the East Coast.  Instead of division and discouragement among the people may there be unity, restoration and a common vision for rebuilding, re-establishing and healing.  Lord, would you raise up and encourage people in positions of influence.  Would you heal the hearts of those people who have lost their very livelihoods, their homes, their communities, and perhaps even their loved ones to the effects.  God, though there is devastation, may we see Your hope and Your promises endure.  May our eyes be opened to see that You are bigger, stronger and more mighty than anything man can produce, build or claim as his own.  Lord, send healing, provision and perspective to us all, especially those directly affected.  We trust in Your ability to show us eternity even in the darkest of moments.  Amen.

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has appointed me to bring good news to the poor.  He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to announce that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.  He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord's favor has come, and with it, the day of God's anger against their enemies.  To all who mourn in Israel, he will give beauty for ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair.  For the Lord has planted them like strong and graceful oaks for his own glory."
Isaiah 61:1-3

Please add your prayers below...and if it is on your heart to donate to relief efforts, there are many organizations seeking to help.  World Vision is one of these funds...
