The longing to be fully who God created you to be?
To experience beauty in all its fullness?
The book Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul is one of my favorites. I began the book this week for the fourth time, and what amazes me is that, each time I read, it means something new and different.
Have you ever experienced a book that touched you in that way? The Bible, itself, is the ultimate example of Words that never return void, no matter how many times its read.
Here is an excerpt from Captivating:
"The longings God has written deep in your heart are telling you something essential about what it means to be a woman, and the life he meant for you to live. Now we know--many of those desires have gone unmet, or been assaulted, or simply so long neglected, that most women end up living two lives. One the surface we are busy and efficient, professional, even. We are getting by. On the inside women lose themselves in a fantasy world or in cheap novels, or we give ourselves over to food or some other addiction or numb the ache of our heart. But your heart is still there, crying out to be set free, to find the life your desires tell you of. You can find that life--if you are willing to embark on a great adventure" (p 19).
The rest of the book relates what we experience as women to the uniquely designed characteristics that God intended us to embrace when He made us. Do any of these resonate with you? The desire to be romanced, to be part of a great adventure, and to unveil beauty?
If you have not read Captivating, by John and Stasi Eldredge, pray about it and then pick it up and read. I would love to hear your thoughts on the book, and on who God made us to be as women!
Which desires do you feel on your heart as a woman? What other books or verses relate to this?
