Identity Embrace: Protected

Has your heart ever felt like it was beating out of your chest?

There are nights when I have trouble falling asleep, as I anticipate the next day's events, play out conversations in my head, or process what occurred earlier on in the day.  And sometimes, I can feel my heart beating wildly in anticipation.  Has that ever happened to you?

God does not give us a spirit of anxiety.  God gives us peace (Galatians 5:22).  Yet, there are moments when our minds seem to spin, our thoughts go wayward, and our focus wanes.

There is good news: Jesus has already prayed protection over you.  You are protected in Christ.

In John 17, Jesus reveals His deep devotion to His followers by praying specific prayers over them.  Jesus specifically prays protection over you:

V. 9: "I pray for them.  I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours."

V. 11: "Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name...so that they may be one, as we are one."

V. 12: "While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me."

V. 15: "My prayer is not that you would take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one."

V. 19: "For them I sanctify myself, that they may be truly sanctified."

The Father's very Name is enough to protect you.  Jesus overcoming death was enough to seal the deal.  No amount of stress, anxiety, or pounding heartbeats can steal this protection.  You are protected in the Name of Jesus!

How else has God promised His protection over you?  How can you thank God for His protection?
