Outpourings: Gratefulness

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV

Many years ago, one of my closest friends led me to this verse, after I asked her, "How do I know what God's will is for such-and-such situation?"

We can choose to place ourselves directly in line with God's will when we have gratefulness instead of complaining and grumbling.

In this very moment, actually, I had this entire post composed just a moment ago--my computer froze, and I lost the entire thing!  An opportunity to choose gratefulness, perhaps?  Thank you, Lord, that I lost the entire post, for now I get to ponder once more the act of choosing gratefulness.

I will add the edits later, but for now, our outpouring is this: What hardships can you thank God for today?  How can you place yourself in His will by being thankful for thorns?

  1. I am thankful for the current difficulties that I'm experiencing with my roommate right now; we don't live together anymore, but we're still duking it out over who pays what and all that. Recently I read a blog post on the subject of time, and I'm beginning to wonder whether or not it's worth the time to protect my money and not getting roped into doing things that I don't have to. It's teaching me how to let go of my anger

  2. Alyx, it sounds like you are learning to discern circumstances with maturity. That is truly the Holy Spirit working within you. I have encountered similar things in the past--what is really worth the time, since we are told in the Bible that "the grass withers and the flower fades"? How can we all best discern the most important things in these short, fleeting days?
