Random Acts [Julie]

“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’”Matthew 25:40

Hmm. Interesting.

Many of you have probably heard this passage of scripture before. Found in the book of Matthew, Jesus is telling his disciples, “I was thirsty and gave me something to drink, and you saw I was naked and you clothed me.”

“But Lord, when did we ever do this? We haven’t done that for you.”

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

“Ooooooh.” Say the disciples, perhaps. “We get it now. We all belong to you, and you love when we act kindly toward one another! We all belong to your family! Gosh, LET’S GO AND DO!”

Okay, maybe the disciples didn’t get respond quite that way, but perhaps we should.

I have come across many readings, sermons, and conversations in the past few weeks which have sparked in me a great longing to show Christ’s love to people through acts of kindness. I have been reading the book One Simple Act by Debbie Macomber, and it’s so very encouraging! She speaks about the power of simple kindness, generosity, and about looking for the best in others. By doing so, we can not only help someone, but boost their self-esteem, supply a need, or simply brighten their day. More importantly, unexpected acts of kindness can cause someone to ask "Why would you do that for me?" - opening up a wonderful door for sharing the Gospel.

We DO out of LOVE because He DIED and ROSE out of LOVE.

And you know that the most important word is in that verse in Matthew? = "Whatever you did for ONE of the least of these..."

Just one. JUST ONE person. Affect just ONE single person today and Christ gets all the glory. We don't have to solve world hunger or cure AIDS, we just have to show love in one small gesture to have a huge impact. Seriously.

What has someone done for you that has shown Christ's love in an unexpected way? What have you done for someone else? How have those experiences affected the receiver AND the giver?

What is Christ calling you to do randomly today? Just go for it!

P.S. - Did you know that there is a foundation just for supporting random acts of kindness? They're great! Check it:
