Living Sacrifices

Romans 12:1-2, ESV "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

I have read this verse multiple times throughout the course of my life, but this morning what really stuck out to me was the part about testing and discernment.  As in the last post, the questions "God, what is Your will for my life?  For my career?  For serving others?" have been heavily on my mind (as on the minds of many, many twenty-somethings).  But Paul clearly says that we can test and discern what is the will of God.  We can test and discern what is good and acceptable and perfect.  Easier said than done?

I don't necessarily think so.  I think God gives us all the tools to discern and test.  He gives us the Mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16) and knowledge and understanding of His character right in the written Word.  So then, are the things we are currently experiencing--the relationships, the career moves, the hobbies, and the various directions we are headed--of great worth?  One commentator writes the "Greek [translation] often has the sense of finding out the worth of something by putting it to use or testing it in actual practice".

What tests or matters of discernment has God clearly been placing in your path?
