What about those ugly moments?

I had one of those moments last night...we all know those moments.  Those “ugly moments” when hair doesn’t do what you styled it to do, when the sneakers you thought were such a great idea this morning suddenly seem like the worst style faux-pas ever.  One of those.  Don’t get me wrong; I was having a fantastic day.  And it started on the right foot because I got up early to spend some time in quiet with the Lord.
So what in the world happens when, in less than five minutes, I morph from confident, upbeat Kristen into girl-who’s-insecure-and-feeling-ugly-mode?  It is times like these when I am convinced we are in deep with a fleshly battle, and the evil one is bound and determined to sap any ounce of “pretty” we hold.  Let’s face it, we are beautiful women of the Lord, and the evil one hates that.

This is just one demonstration to get us started, but I want to dialogue about these very issues.  Issues of our identity.  Issues of our security.  Issues that make our blood boil, and those that make us shout for joy.  Let’s make this blog a place where we can boldly approach the throne of grace, and boldly approach other women, with the questions we have, the battles we face, and the enormous grace of God!

This is a new concept, but my hope is that the contributions of women from many places, ages, and backgrounds will work together to grant some clarification of who God says we are in Him.  This can present itself in question/answer format, in various stories or thoughts you may have, or in ways that the Lord speaks to you through the Word.  And please comment under those thoughts or questions that spur your own.

Most importantly, tell your friends!  Let’s get so many women connected that this blog insists on creating community groups.  So...

Have you ever had an “ugly” moment?

  1. It's good to know I am not the only one with those "ugly-moments"...Sometimes, I feel like everyone is staring at me, and insecurity can step in. I know that feeling can be natural, but I also know that God can conquer all insecurities!

  2. I, too, have had my share of "ugly moments"! The majority of them have come from the society's pressure to be skinny-skinny. Often I find myself having to surrender that to the Lord in prayer - "Lord, please take away my insecurities about my body and remind me that YOU love me NO matter WHAT I look like, and that my true value is found ONLY in being loved and forgiven by YOU!" My prayer is that women everywhere would live healthful lives while accepting their God-given, glorious, working bodies.
